Remains of an ancient temple were excavated directly behind the harbour. Tradition has it that Nero stopped off on his way to Corinth and gave an impromptu song recital which, bearing in mind his reputation, the locals no doubt admired enthusiastically. Sadly, the fortress is greatly damaged with portions only of its walls remaining; it is surrounded by modern constructions.
